Cruelty-Free from Start to Finish and Why That Matters

It's 2019, and consumers are more becoming increasingly aware of the impact their purchases make. So, they are demanding the brands they purchase do their best to make the world a cleaner, safer and kinder place. Which is why cruelty-free skincare products are becoming more and more popular. But, not everything labeled cruelty-free what it claims to be. Hale Cosmeceuticals explains what it means to be genuinely cruelty-free and where to find the products that are.

    What is Cruelty-Free?

The cruelty-free designation for skincare and makeup means that a company did harm animals in the process of manufacturing the product and did not test the product on animals. That sounds wonderful, but there's a catch: product manufacturers can use the label cruelty-free if the final product itself has not been tested on animals. So, you may not be getting the whole story. Lenient laws that regulate product labeling mean that a company can use the cruelty-free designation even if some components, ingredients or other products created and tested within the same lab have been tested on animals. Additionally, even if a company itself does not test on animals, that company may contract with another company that does and still designate its final product cruelty-free. The real heartbreaker is that with advances in technology, there are many ways a company can test ingredients and products without the use of animals for example, sophisticated computer and mathematical modeling and cell and tissue samples. In other words, animal testing is in no way necessary or even the best method to test product safety for human skin.

    Hale Cosmeceuticals: Truly Cruelty-Free

At Hale Cosmeceuticals, we are a cruelty-free brand from start to finish. We never test on animals, and our products are free from animal-derived ingredients. One example: squalene oil it can be derived from a shark, but we only use plant-derived squalene oil in our skincare products.  When we say we do not test our products on animals, we mean it because our products are not formulated or manufactured anywhere else. All of our research and development is in-house, and all processing is done locally in the United States. That's the only way we can completely control product quality and ensure truly humane production. Even our sunscreen is cruelty-free and reef-safe because it is free of oxybenzone.
