How to Keep Your Skin Clear During Allergy Season

Allergies don't just make you feel miserable during allergy season; they can also wreak havoc on your skin care routine. If you suffer from puffy eyes inflammation rashes and breakouts when your allergies act up these steps can help you look your best and minimize the damage.

Soothe Puffy Eyes

Puffy eyes and circles under your eyes are caused by sinus congestion that interferes with blood flow around the eyes. When allergens enter your eyes mast cells release the protein histamine that makes your eyes swollen and irritated. Along with antihistamine sprays and mast cell stabilizer eyedrops you can prevent eye allergy symptoms by using artificial tears to rinse away allergens. Use cool compresses in the morning and evening to reduce swelling and soothe your eyes. A gentle fingertip massage can also redistribute fluid build-up around the eyes to improve their appearance. Use a concealer with peach undertones to cancel out the dark circles.

Hydrate Your Nose

Fight the peeling painful and red skin around your nose by hydrating your nose at night. Apply a night balm that will seep into your skin while you sleep so your nose will be flake-free and ready for concealer when you wake up.

Shake Up Your Shower Routine

Histamines can make your skin red itchy and inflamed. To fight redness add one cup of baking soda to a bath and soak for up to one hour to soothe your skin. Alternate with short 15-minute soaks with two cups of colloidal oatmeal to help your skin tone bounce back.

Choose Gentle Skin Care Products

Finally avoid products with harsh fragrances and toxic preservatives like parabens during allergy season. Even if you tolerate fragranced products well normally they can cause further damage when your skin is already inflamed and irritated.
