The Break Down
Our new Platinum Peel contains:
- 7% salicylic acid
- 7% lactic acid
- 7% Resveratrol
at a 2.0 pH. Here's what that does for your skin:
Salicylic acid is a lipophilic beta hydroxy acid (BHA), which means it dissolves in oil, allowing it to penetrate through the lipid layer of cell membranes and bind to sebum. This quality makes salicylic acid an ideal treatment for oily skin, hence why it's such a popular acne treatment. But that's not all. Salicylic acid is also keratolytic it removes the top layer of dead skin cells so that new cells can come to the surface, giving you a more radiant complexion. And, since salicylic acid is a prodrug of aspirin, it is anti-inflammatory, so it does all this without the redness and irritation associated with aggressive exfoliation
.Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). Like salicylic acid, lactic acid encourages cell turnover to brighten a dull complexion. In addition to its exfoliating action, lactic acid also stimulates collagen production, making your skin firmer, and it can help prevent photo damage. Together, these properties make lactic acid an excellent anti-aging treatment.
Resveratrol is a phenol often derived from the skin of red grapes that protects the plant from assaults by bacteria, fungi and UV radiation. When used in skin care products, it provides similar protection. Resveratrol is one of the most powerful known antioxidants, perhaps because it fights free radicals in two ways: first by bonding to some metal ions to prevent free radical formation and second by binding to already-formed free radicals to neutralize them. In fact, it is 17 times more powerful than idebenone, a prescription-only antioxidant currently used in many skin care formulations. Resveratrol may also stimulate the production of collagen and healthy skin cells, so it is also a highly effective anti-aging treatment.
Professional Application
Because the Platinum Peel combines three very powerful treatments, it is only suitable for professional use. Apply the peel using a gauze pad or fan brush and leave on skin for 30 to 60 seconds. You may increase application time once you know how your client's skin will tolerate the solution; however, the peel should never be on the skin longer than five minutes. To neutralize the acids, use DMAE Neutralizer 5% or a water and baking soda solution. Immediately apply Dermist M3HA post-peel to rehydrate. This peel is safe for use every three to four weeks. To enhance the skin brightening effects of the lactic acid, you may pair this peel with our SB-7 Skin Brightener, or you may use one of our antioxidant formulas to boost and prolong the anti-aging (i.e. anti-line and wrinkle) effects.
