Top 5 Tips to Revive Your Springtime Glow

You don't need the calendar to tell you that Spring has sprung! You already know by the longer days and warmer temperatures. Now that Nature is inviting you out of hiding, you need to dust off that dull winter complexion and greet the sun and everyone else enjoying it with glowing skin. Here's how:

Tip #1: Exfoliate Deeply (before it's too late)

Without a doubt, the best thing you can do for your skin moving into spring is to slough away all the dead skin cells that have piled up over the winter holidays when you were too busy to exfoliate. Early spring is an excellent opportunity for deep exfoliation i.e., exfoliation done with professional assistance, such as:

    • Microdermabrasion
    • Chemical peel

Chemical peels should be done soon as many aestheticians will no longer perform them after April to prevent sun damage that can easily follow exposure to high-intensity rays by photosensitive skin. You may also consider laser skin resurfacing, which can diminish the appearance of scars and areas of hyperpigmentation.

Tip #2: Cleanse Daily with the Right Wash

Increasing your time in the fresh air is great, but it may expose your skin to heavier loads of environmental toxins. You need to make sure that your facial cleanser is potent enough to remove environmental contaminants and makeup without stripping your skin of natural moisture. Hence, soap-free formulas are recommended.  Gentle daily exfoliation can also help keep your skin glowing. Since sweat and oil (sebum) production increase in summer and combine with dead skin cells to create a pore-clogging ick, we recommend our Dermist Exfoliating Cleanser or our Dermist GSL-624 Clarifying Cleanser.

Tip #3: Lighten up Your Moisturizer

Cold winter air and treated/heated air hold very little moisture, making surface-level evaporation increase in the winter. So, you needed a thicker moisturizer to prevent hydration loss. Moderate temperatures decrease the rate of evaporation, so most skin types (except very dry skin) can swap oil-based moisturizers for a water-based lotion, like our Soft Finishing Moisturizer or C-Fine Milk Lotion.

Tip #4: Increase Your Sun Protection

Sun protection should be used year-round, but we know many people ditch it when they're not spending a lot of time outdoors in the winter. But, now that the temps are climbing, no one can deny they need sun protection. To prevent photoaging, you need broad-spectrum sun protection that provides at least SPF 20. Whether you opt for a beauty balm with built-in sunscreen like our Complexion Perfection or a separate pre-makeup layer like our Complexion Protection is just a matter of preference. Just make sure you apply it every day.

Tip #5: Boost Your Antioxidant Absorption

You can do more than prevent photoaging. You can actually reverse it, but only if you give your skin the right nutrients antioxidants. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals so that they cannot damage the components that give your skin its firmness and texture. Increased antioxidant levels can also facilitate skin cell repair to diminish fine lines and wrinkles. Hale Cosmeceuticals has a line of potent antioxidant applications, including:
