4 Tips for Beautiful Feet

Summer will be here before you know it, which means sandal season is right around the corner. If you’re not a big fan of your feet, you might be reluctant to buy that cute pair of sandals you’ve had your eye on. You may also feel self-conscious when spending time at the pool or beach knowing that your feet are on full display.

The good news is that you can vastly improve the look and feel of you feet by developing a foot care routine that gets results. Here are a few ways to care for your feet to ensure they are ready for summer.

1. Trim Your Toenails Regularly
Trimming once a week is best to keep nails healthy and strong. Always use a clean, sharp pair of nail clippers. Cut the toenail straight across and not at an angle. Cutting at an angle increases your risk of developing an ingrown toenail, which is both painful and unsightly. Filing down the nail afterward ensures an even look, and also preps your toes for a pretty nail color shade.

2. Moisturize Your Feet
The best way to avoid dry, scaly feet is to moisturize once per day. Apply moisturizer after getting out of the shower, as this will help the lotion fully absorb into your skin. Extra-dry feet should also be moisturized thoroughly before going to bed. You can even exfoliate feet using a pumice stone or foot care brush.

3. Wear the Right Size Shoes
Wearing shoes that are too tight can lead to foot issues, such as blisters and bunions. Not only are these problems painful, they also have a negative impact on the look of your feet.

The right pair of shoes won’t need to be broken in; they might fit well from the first moment you try them on. They should offer enough room for you to wiggle your toes freely. They also shouldn’t pinch the back of your ankle or any other part of your foot. Because your feet tend to swell during the day, shopping for shoes in the afternoon or later will ensure you find a pair that fits well.

4. Make Sure Your Feet Stay Dry
Wet feet heighten your risk of developing a fungal infection, which can cause redness and irritation. Make sure feet are completely dry after showering and moisturizing. If there’s excess lotion on your feet, wipe it off before putting on socks and shoes.
If your socks happen to get wet, change them immediately. Additionally, try not to wear shoes without socks, as this can cause your feet to sweat. Look for low-rise socks, which provide the sockless look without the discomfort.
