Skin Care Tips for Men

Taking care of your skin is NOT as hard as you think!

When it comes to skin care, men have traditionally kept it simple. It does not require a lot of effort to help maintain healthy and youthful skin as we age. There are several easy things we can do to take care of our skin.

1) Know your skin type. Choose appropriate products

Men tend to have more oily and thicker skin, mainly due to the effects of testosterone. That does not mean that all men have oily skin. Most ‘men’s care’ skin products do target OILY skin. However, if your skin is dry, then choose the appropriate products. Know what skin type you are, and look for appropriate products

Sensitive skin may sting or burn after product use

Normal Skin is clear and not sensitive

Dry skin is flaky, itchy or rough

Oily skin is shiny and greasy

Combination skin is dry in some areas and oily in others

2) Moisturize your skin daily

Moisturizer works by retaining water in your skin, which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and make your skin look brighter and fresh. For the best results, apply moisturizer to your face and body immediately after bathing, showering or shaving. This helps retain moisture already on the skin. And the right moisturizer can help with razor burn!!

3) Be cognizant of your shaving technique.

If you often experience razor bumps or burns from shaving too close to the skin, switch from a multi-blade to a single-blade razor instead and do not stretch your skin while shaving. Before you shave, wet your skin and hair to soften it. Use a moisturizing shaving cream and shave in the direction of hair growth. Rinse after each swipe of the razor, and change your blade after five to seven shaves to minimize irritation.

4) Wear sunscreen whenever outdoors.

To help prevent sun damage that can lead to wrinkles, age spots and even skin cancer, before going outdoors, apply sunscreen to all exposed areas of skin, including your scalp, ears, neck and lips. Apply a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or sweating. Avoid direct sun exposure during the hottest times of day. You can also wear sun-protective clothing, such as a lightweight and long-sleeved shirt, pants, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses with UV protection, when possible

5) Try different skin products!!!

Try different products to see what suits your skin! Some of the products at Hale Cosmeceuticals which are specifically LOVED by Men are :

  • Dermist Cleanser (to cleanse the skin)
  • ORAC Lifting Complex (moisurizer to use after shaving to minimize pores, razor bumps, and acne)
  • Dermist M3HA Hyaluronic acid to retain moisture!

Back To Basics

While skin care products will be a big part of maintaining clean and clear skin, there is more to a healthy face than mere formulations. In fact, this is just one small part of the equation. Other habits and routines will affect your skin, such as:

Diet—Your diet provides the building blocks that allow your skin to regenerate. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables ensures that you have access to the healing power of antioxidants.

Exercise—Being active not only builds muscle mass and strength but also helps your skin looks its best.

Hydration—Your body is made up largely of water. Without this life-giving component in sufficient quantities, your skin will suffer.

Sun Protection—Some men might like the rugged look created by sun exposure. However, the damaging effects of the sun’s rays can increase wrinkling, as well as leave you at risk for skin cancers.

Skin Care Products—Most men can get away with a simple routine, but don’t skimp on quality products.
