    Fall DIY Skincare Products

Hale Cosmeceuticals invests in our own R & D to ensure that we stay on the cutting-edge of skincare technology. We usually discourage DIY skincare products because they are likely to be ineffective or use ingredients that could actually damage skin or limit progress toward your skincare goals if used too often. However, there are some DIY skincare products that may benefit your skin (and your pocketbook) this fall. Here are our favorites:

    Olive oil sugar scrub

This easy DIY recipe calls for equal parts olive oil and table sugar 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of each is sufficient for a single application. Mix the oil and sugar to create an even consistency and slather over just-washed skin. Gently massage the scrub in a circular motion it's even gentle enough for your lips (although we suggest you avoid the delicate eye area). Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. Olive oil is non-comedogenic, but if you do not like the feel left on your skin, you may remove the remaining oil with a gentle creamy cleanser. Just make sure to replenish quickly with a quality moisturizer. Honey facial mask Masques are periodic treatments that, unfortunately, often get forgotten in the cabinet. If you want an easy treatment that you don't have to worry about going bad between uses, then make use of some of your sweeteners and spices. For this mask, combine:

    • Approximately 1/3 cup honey
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • ½ teaspoon nutmeg

The ingredients in the mask have known antimicrobial properties and can also help reduce inflammation. Apply the sticky spicy mix to just-washed skin and let sit for three to five minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and follow with your preferred moisturizer. Sea salt body scrub To smooth skin roughened over the summer, try a full-body scrub.

    • Combine ¼ cup sea salt (or Himalayan salt) with 2 tablespoons olive oil and 10-20 drops (to achieve your desired strength of aroma) of lemon essential oil. Make sure salt is well-coated with oil.
    • Combine oil and salt with 3 tablespoons lemon or lime juice.

Apply the scrub and gently massage in the shower to exfoliate. Rinse with warm water. Pat dry and follow with your favorite body lotion or cream. Peppermint foot soak This DIY foot soak gives you the perfect way to unwind and destress. Combine:

    • 2 cups Epsom salts
    • ½ cup baking soda
    • 5 drops peppermint essential oil

Add the salt mixture to your foot bath filled with warm water and let your feet soak for 10-15 minutes. Before drying off, take the opportunity to pumice-away calluses. Apply your favorite body lotion or cream and put on clean cotton socks for deeper moisturizer penetration. You've probably noticed that there are no DIY moisturizers or serums on this list.
